'Summoner' in the Walled Garden, Stroud Museum
In 2009, five pieces of sculpture were acquired for a permanent collection at The Museum in the Park, Stroud, Gloucestershire. These were Animaversion, Summoner, Together, Punch and Judy and Exit. When the project to open up the original walled garden, which was part of the estate and attached to Stratford House, 'Summoner' by Alan Thornhill was selected for permanent exhibition near the entrance from the Museum into the garden. 'This charismatic figure guards the garden threshold and invites you to come and explore this enchanting, ever changing place.'
This new entrance was cut through an old wall and the accessible walkway was created winding up the slopes of the old garden towards the new learning centre pavilion. Everybody seems delighted with this new extension of the Museum's potential and the gardens are already a delight, even though this was still a building site until a few months ago.
