Cityscape
A day at the Opera, without the Marx Brothers. We saw Aida in San Francisco and had an hour or so to walk around the neighborhood before it began. It's been a good long while since we've been to the city, and it was a beautiful day to be out and about. Verdi's music was big and lush and stirring, but the production itself was a little odd, from the stark hieroglyphic sets to some very peculiar 60s caftans worn by the ladies in waiting. Overheard at intermission: "I loved the glitter that came down at the end of the act, but I think they could at least have had a fake elephant."
