Saturday: Laneway House

Yesterday morning this plot of land was someone's back garden. By mid afternoon, this construction had been put up. It's in the alley behind our house. These are called laneway houses and are a peculiar phenomenon in the metro Vancouver area - basically they're small houses that go up at the edge of people's properties.

We feel sorry for our neighbours as this completely dominates their views now.

We met the people who own the house where this has gone up not long after we first arrived. Given they told us how they kept making wise property decision and were able to scale up every few years, I suspect this might also be a financial move.
