Mountain and Cranes
Mountain and Cranes at sunset, Ladd S. Gordon Waterfowl Complex, Bernardo, NM
I am not even sure what this particular set of mountains is called, other than they sit on the eastern edge of the Rio Grande Rift, south of the Sandias-Manzanos and were formed by the same mechanisms. I went down there with a friend, the puppy and her dog. The puppy still won't get back in the car and tonight when we got back, he almost got himself killed when he snuck out of the car and wouldn't get back in on a major street.
I really love the masses of birds and the feeling as they take off and fly over head. It is an astonishing feeling. I am a little sad that the soonest I can get back is Christmas Day, and I am not sure my family would appreciate me skipping out on the big day to see birds. Then it is off to Colorado to visit a friend for a week, so it might be 2 or even 3 weeks before I can make it back.
Today I learned I need to slow down and take my time while taking picutres. It is the same as learning to throw clay I guess. I force myself to take a deep breath and hold it before a pull. I think I need to do the same before I take a shot.
Today I am grateful for the big beautiful sky in New Mexico, thousands of birds, posole, red chile and family.
