Poor wren!
"Among the dwellings framed by birds
In field or forest with nice care,
Is none that with the little wren's
In snugness may compare."
A Wren's Nest W.Wordsworth
Yes, I know it is inevitable: if you have a cat sooner or later it will start bringing in "little gifts".
This morning I found this wren, still warm, on the floor of my study.
Taz, it goes without saying, is well settled and goes off on frequent hunting expeditions, night and day.
There is a sadness about a little life cut short so swiftly, not even for food, but simply for the pleasure of killing.
Oh Taz! what have we brought into our garden?
