simple simon's

Pierre and I went to Avignon today. First stop was Simple Simon's tea room for lunch. I've heard lots of good stuff about it and have been wanting to go for years but every time we've been to Avignon it's either been closed or too full! We arrived today and there was nobody - result! It was comforting to be in a place with British decor and menu choices that looked like they were from home but, unfortunately, the food wasn't great at all! I had the chicken salad which was the weirdest mixture of stuff on a plate: chicken strips (OK, fair enough), boiled egg, baked potato pieces, orange-dressed lentils that were extremely sweet, lamb's lettuce with very little dressing, some raw mushrooms, a little ramekin of sour cream and chive sauce, a tomato, and some boiled quinoa with no seasoning whatsoever. Pierre got the 'plat du jour' which was a salmon, bacon, and cheddar toasted sandwich. Salmon and bacon? Anyway, it was actually quite tasty but it came served with some lamb's lettuce with one prawn on top, a tomato, a huge piece of melon, and two quarters of orange. Very strange! I thought I'd make up for it with cake for afters and ordered the sticky toffee pudding which was just OK. Ah well, at least I can say I've now been to Simple Simon's! Even if the food wasn't that great.

We had a wander round the Place de l'Horloge where the Christmas market will start soon, and then we headed to Le Pontet for a stop at Cultura. I had a voucher to spend so got some stuff in there, including the wee one's first book :)

Luckily the weather stayed dry for us whilst we were in Avignon as it bucketed down the whole way home and for the rest of the evening. It was great to be inside with the fire on, all cosy :)
