Route march

The new winter sailing schedule meant that yesterday we had to be up at 5am and between us we drove approximately 150km on an island that is only about 20km long as the crow flies from uninhabited lighthouse in the North West to discreetly located nudist beach in the South East. I did about 2/3 of the driving while Spouseman spent most of the day on the mainland. Therefore I have spent today indoors not-quite-resting.

When I have to drive somewhere unfamiliar I find particular comfort in road signs which confirm the direction in which you are headed after you have negotiated a junction. Normally I drive to our local port to meet guests and show them the route to our cottage. We now have a booking from someone who will be arriving by car on the car ferry at the other end of the island and I am not prepared to meet them there and lead them the whole way back here, so I have spent a happy day indoors creating foolproof instructions and have emailed them.

Spouseman finds this hilarious since most normal people these days are happy enough with smartphones, Google maps and GPS. I like to have a fall-back position in case of flat batteries or lack of signal. It transpires the guest is more like me.
