Thankful
Woke up with a nasty cold (can’t even remember when I last had anything like this) …..but instead of staying under the covers all day which sounded good, I got up to get ready to go meet the ferry. Well, seems it was going to be a couple hours late due to high winds. So I made my apple pie. (they are bringing stuff for pumpkin and pecan pies!) We saw on the ferry website that it was eventually headed to the mainland —in fact it was over half way, when it turned around. The south wind must have been just right. CANCELLED! Humm.. Of all the thanksgivings that we have spent here, this is a first for this day. So….after hanging around the terminal for a couple hours, the 2 cars, 4 kids, 1 dog and lots of food, are now safely spending the night in a motel in Tsawwassen. Will try again in the morning ferry. (there’s only one other ferry and it’s at night in the dark…) I spent the rest of the day on the couch with book and knitting and we both had a nap.. but late afternoon I thought I should at least get some fresh air …the water was calm, the rain had stopped, the light was great, and I saw this otter swimming, heading to shore with his crab dinner. I was hoping he’d get on the dock for the photo! Also some oystercatchers noisily landed on the point next to a gull. I tried to combine the two (extra) but I feel like simple today…simple pleasures....even tho it’s not the sharpest photo. I’m thankful to be here in a beautiful spot where the wildlife still thrive as they have for so many years. and the rest of the family is safe on a little extra adventure —we’ll have our thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. H and I will have a piece of apple pie! :-) Hope everyone had a good day!
