Story of an oak

This 100 year old oak stands in the courtyard outside Duncan MacLean's wine shop in Kirkwall. I was standing admiring the lovely golden glow from it's few surviving leaves when Duncan stopped to chat. He said that the tree was planted by his wife's granda. He received a present of two pheasants from a friend from Caithness. When preparing one of the birds he found an acorn in it's crop and planted it where it now stands.Oak trees are very rare on Orkney, this story makes this one even more special.
