York Mystery Plays
We had a brilliant time celebrating our friend Richard's birthday with a trip to the York Mystery Plays being put on in York Museum Gardens. Details about the plays are here, it's well worth watching the video clips to give a sense of how fantastic it was. I loved everything about it - the staging was really imaginative, the use of the choir and brass band excellent, the choreography really effective, and the lead actors were just wonderful. This is from the beginning Creation scene (before we realised we weren't supposed to take pictures, whoops!) with God in the centre surrounded by angels (the angel in blue is Gabriel). I thought the design of the angels as whirling dervishes worked really well. My favourite scenes were Noah's flood in the first act, and the Harrowing of Hell in the second act, and I also shed a tear at the birth of Christ I must admit.
If you've not seen them and are anywhere near York, do go, it was a brilliant show.
I've got minimal internet access for the next week and a bit, but will catch up with everyone when I can.
