Eagle's Nest
Posting this November 2016 after a few Eddie The Eagle references on Blip.
Bliper Nogbad was working in Berchtesgaden and I popped down from Munich to join him. We must have worked all day as we didn't go outside. Have to say we were in a restaurant with ample supplies of coffee and food so there was no real reason to take unnecessary exertions. Nice traditional "Eiche rustical" interior -"rustic oak" part of the problem with the chain of Wienerwald restaurants, similar to the UK's Berni Inns but chicken instead of steaks.
Should have tried to have had a few days with him there as there are some wonderful nearby sights such as Salzburg in Austria and the lovely Königssee Lake.
Berchtesgaden is best known for being the town just below Hitler's summer time residence -Berghof. We weren't the first British visitors - in 1937 ex King Edward VIII had visited Hitler and was apparently very sympathetic to his views!
It could well be that the hill behind Nigel is the site although it could be the Kehlstein where Hitler was given a "hut" for his 50th birthday and which was nicknamed The Eagle's Nest. Hitler hardly ever used it, being frightened by it's exposure to lightning and RAF bombers (who never managed to hit it).
