Hubbards Hills Louth

Still lots of gorgeous colour about despite the gloomy weather and fortunately the River Lud (looking very muddy and swollen)has not burst its bank.
At one time this little river powered 13 watermills!
Hubbard's Hills was given to the town in 1907 by the trustees of Auguste Alphonse Pahud. The story behind the gift is sad. Pahud came to Louth as a schoolteacher in 1875 and married a local girl. His wife died 14 years later and Pahud never got over the loss and committed suicide in 1902. The gift of Hubbard's hills to the town was the trustees way of carrying out Pahud's wishes to perpetuate the memory of his wife.
It is a popular beauty spot visited by many today.
