Tabbies and Tomatoes
"Pick ME!"
That's what this little fellow seems to be saying -- and I have to admit that he was very tempting, but we are in a pet-free phase of our lives just now, so I contented myself with taking his photo and making a donation to Eva's Eden, a cage-free cat shelter north of Bellingham.
Eva's Eden is one of a number of nonprofit organizations that sign up to bring their displays to the Bellingham Farmers Market, knowing that the market draws many people each Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (April through the Saturday before Christmas).
But let's not think about winter while sunny weather prevails and the market is full of the most gorgeous tomatoes, and hot peppers, and smiling farmers at booths loaded with summer's bounty!
(I brought home five pints of cherry tomatoes, a pound of larger tomatoes, fresh cheese and yogurt, a dozen local eggs, a pound of green beans, two cucumbers, a variety of breads, five pounds of peaches, and ten pounds of blueberries, among other things.)
