It wasn't a great surprise to find that the road drain outside our house was blocked. For reasons best know to highways engineers it's expected that half of the rain falling on the A449 is to go down this hole, whereas all it really gets if a substantial proportion of the grit; which is very effective at blocking it up.

It was a great surprise that, having reported it, someone came to clear the drain within hours.  Last time we reported it, it took nearly a year before anyone turned up with something more useful than a can of orange paint.
