Bronze Elephant

PROUD Cestrians have decided to call the city's bronze elephant Janya, meaning 'life' after Chester Zoo ran a survey to name the female calf.

The elephant, a gift to the city of Chester from Chester Zoo, can be found on Northgate Street/St Werburgh's Street and will soon have interpretation panels installed to explain how the 1m high statue came to be there.

The public chose the name Janya from a list of names of Hindi origin
