Papa Paolozzi
The Design Museum has just relocated from Butlers Wharf to a new home in the former Commonwealth Institute in Kensington High Street. This sculpture, called the 'Head of Invention' by Eduardo Paolozzi travelled with it.
Paolozzi taught Sir Terence Conran who created the museum in it's original home in the Boilerhouse of the V&A so it's fitting that where Sir Terence goes, his mentor does too.
There was a soft opening today for members. I slipped in with my press Card. Lovely, cosy, wood warm space and with much better lifts than the Tate Modern extension (which is always a good start).
The current temporary exhibition 'Fear and Love' is well worth exploring. Most alarming for me was 'Mimus', a giant industrial robot ..."that's curious about the world around her. Mimus has no eyes - she uses sensors imbedded in the ceiling to see everyone around her simultaneously. If she finds you interesting, Mimus may come for a closer look..."
