The Bass Rock as seen from Kirkcaldy.

The Rock  is looking taller that it really is because of a mirage effect caused by refraction through cold denser air..  The bottom third of the rock is inverted and appears below the rest which is elevated higher than usual.

The 'extra' is of North Berwick Law taken at the same time (well, a few seconds later anyway).
