Christmas cactus

or if you prefer Thanksgiving cactus, but I think it will serve for both!  Schlumbergera is the name given to the genus honoring a 19th century French collector of cacti and succulents. I have no idea whether he was connected to the Schlumberger brothers of oil and gas supplies fame. They were also French and lived in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
My plant is a small one growing from a piece that I found on the floor at my son's after it had broken off one of his wife's plants.
