History

The Cross Well in Linlithgow adorned by a Unicorn, the national animal of Scotland (sadly the last one was killed in 1788 on Badenoch Moor by George the Third - he was credited with the kill but there is evidence to suggest that it was his Irish mistress Patty O'Dores who actually fired the shot. The Cross Well was old (1807) and even that was an imitation of the original which was obviously even older. They have restored it, and now it looks brand new. I'm not sure I approve.

I mentioned this to the man with the trowel but he assured me it would weather down. In about 200 years.
