Hygge

Christmas has officially come to Edinburgh and the giant wheel has been rolled out again to woo the visitors with the views over the city. It seems only weeks ago that it was dismantled in September after the Festival. Perhaps the council are considering making it a permanent feature of the gardens - I wouldn't rule it out.

It was a lovely crisp, sunny day but very cold when we walked into town to do a spot of enticement shopping, timing it so that we were on the way home as the hordes of tourists appeared threading their way in crocodiles behind their guides. There seems to be no let up in demand for Edinburgh to be the city of short breaks.

His Lordship and I were remembering as we negotiated the busy streets, the Edinburgh of old when it was quieter with more of a small town feel, not so much a metropolis, but I suppose we see the worst of it living as we do in the city centre.

Home to sew, seam and press before the light went and I gave up for the day. It gets dark so quickly now, but there is something of the Danish 'hygge' about closing the blinds, putting on the lamps and staying warm and cosy.
