Unexpected

Woke this morning to the sound of torrential rain.
Or so we thought.
Turned out it was torrential hailstones.  So, as a result, half of the cars I encountered on my journey to work were being driven by idiots.  Because, well, you know...weather!

This was the view from the front door as I left first thing this morning.  I was surprised to find that Bury was not a foot deep in snow.  Surprised and disappointed!

We have had, during the course of the day, more hailstorms, thunder and lightning, proper snow, torrential rain, sleet, more hail, a couple of random flashes of bonus lightning and still it continues.  Reading the science behind the meteorological forecasts, there has been a shift in the jet stream which is creating a blocking pattern.  Tentatively, the met office are suggesting that this might bring some significant cold weather in December.  We will wait and see.  I will buy some wellington boots just in case.

In all, it's been a double sock sort of day ...my office is either bloody freezing (radiator doesn't work) or saharan  (the wall mounted electric heater has one setting - 'tropical').  I opted for freezing knowing that my feet would stay warm with two pairs of socks and my half hourly hot flushes would make me grateful for the cold!

Car in for a service tomorrow.  I will be staying at the garage, drinking their tea and marking my first set of mock exam papers.  I know how to enjoy my weekends!!!!
