Northern Shoveler
The males are very colorful, the females look a bit like the mallard females.
But both have this strange wide and long beak and they attracted my attention because they swim in big groups in a circle. Their beaks half under water, eyes above the water. They do that to filter plankton and other food out of the water. Have a look at the extra picture, if you like.
I noticed them last night on my walk around V. Lake, so today I went back in better light and with a better lens.
The other extra will be a white goose, that I discovered already last winter. It is a couple, just the two of them amidst all the other birds. Their body is shorter than the Canadian geese's body. They look a bit stocky and remind me of the geese that I saw in Germany when I was very little.
