Checking it out ...

I'm going to be taking my caravan south in a couple of weeks for my granddaughter's wedding, so I checked it out today. The worst thing was the shocker of a day; really cold with a biting southerly.

Life is slowly starting to unfold in Kaikoura, and it's not all beer & skittles in Wellington either. All the tourists have left Kaikoura now, either by helicopter or with the Navy, and water has been trucked into Kaikoura by the only inland road. Men & machines did an almost miraculous job getting that road open, and the vehicle that got through was an army style massive 4WD truck. They're discovering more buildings in Wellington that are in imminent danger of collapse. They'll all be beginning to understand better what Christchurch went through.

A friend of mine who battled her way through many distressing house repair challenges, is now coping with her daughter's Wellington house being threatened by the house on the hillside above. It's starting to slide down the hill. Enough! Just as her house here was finished too.
