The road to Aboyne
Back blip
We took a taxi to Aberdeen airport to collect the hire car. A rather fetching red little number which looks much better than expected. I’ve taken a picture of it on my phone in case we lose it in a car park!
We set of for the next stopping place Aboyne. There are a couple of National Trust Properties for Scotland on the way, Drum Castle and Crathes Castle, both have magnificent gardens and grounds.
It’s fascinating to hear the history of these buildings and their occupants over the centuries and long may there be the organisation to protect this heritage for the future. I did the usual, bought a booklet about each property, a habit I got into before we had the internet to consult for details. Time to read up later over a coffee.
The castles have so many tapestries, examples of patchwork, caning and French polishing; things of special interest to me.
The gardens are so well cared for; with the help of volunteers I believe. I have seen so many butterflies today, more than I have seen all year.
We eventually arrived at our B&B in Aboyne. Wow it is amazing. I feel as though we are royalty being invited to one of their lodges for the weekend. I found this on the internet….how…..no idea!! Not expensive relatively speaking, certainly well worth more than we paid.
