Regrets
The economist John Maynard Keynes was once asked if he had any regrets and he answered "My only regret in life is that I didn't drink enough Champagne". I think I've said that to someone on here before. Anyway, I'm determined not to have that as a regret in my Leben.
I shan't take it as far as Noel Coward and his "Why do I drink Champagne for breakfast? Doesn't everyone?" although I can admire his spirit. I can also see where Mark Twain is coming from with ""too much of anything is bad, but too much Champagne is just right."
Perhaps Lily Bollinger of the eponymous Champagne house had it right when she said ""I only drink Champagne when I'm happy, and when I'm sad. Sometimes I drink it when I'm alone. When I have company, I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I am not hungry and drink it when I am. otherwise I never touch it - unless I'm thirsty."
I am in a frivolous mood - brought on by lots of heat (mid 40s° C in the shade here), and my own moderate consumption of a few bubbles.
I was going to use the Dom Perignon quote ("Come quickly, I am drinking the stars") in this but I discovered that that is an entirely made up story. Shame as it is a beautful line.
