Brancaster Staith
Back blip. 10th November.
As always our last stop on the way home is Brancaster Staithe, where we have a cup of coffee while watching the birds digging in the mud.
( not quite our last stop as we called in at Gurney's fish stall for a bag of mussels, which we had for tea when we got home)
Staithe is a Norfolk word for a landing stage for loading and unloading cargo.
It comes from the old Norse word " stoth".
The Staithe is still used today by a few fishing boats, and also famous for the Brancaster Mussels at this time of year.
here is my blipI three years ago see here
In the growing puddles
gulls drll marsh
for nothing we can see
or screech their territory
like fish wives
from the tops of poles.
Taken from a poem by Edwin Brook.
