These steps are close to the Bridgewater Hall.

Not far from here on 16th August 1819 the Peterloo Massacre took place.
Cavalry charged into a crowd of 60,000-80,000 that had gathered to demand the reform of parliamentary representation.
15 people were killed and approx 650 injured.
