Learning Tolerance

Yes, it's Honey Fungus (and so is yours, Greg). Quite pretty, in the same way a cobra is quite pretty, and you don't really want to see either up close. This is blooming in the chicken coop, and is endemic in the area so we simply have to get on with it. 

Tolerance isn't about giving in, it's about seeking compromise. There's almost nothing that you can do to get rid of honey fungus, aside from taking off and nuking it from orbit (it's the only way to be sure). This one took a mature ash tree some years ago, and comes back to grin about it every autumn. All we can do is hope the garden gods protect the rest.

Oh, and dig it up, and bag the above ground and as much of the black rhizomorphs as possible and send it for incineration. That may help. In its way, it is an apex predator, like us, only happier - he's such a fungi...
