For the Love of Cross

Mud. Rain. Pain. Suffering. Smiles.

I love pretty much everything there is to do with this sport. Almost as big a field as Callendar, and I managed to break into the top 100, putting a little more distance on those I'd started the season racing alongside, and getting within 2 places of a rider I'd sort of made a target, which is about ten places closer than my last race.

All that after declaring it wasn't my sort of course, with long sections of trying to power through mud that was just about faster rideable than running. But there were enough running sections that I've got reaosnably well at, and about 75% of the remounts were finally getting nailed in the 'correct' manner. Then there was a vaguely technical singletrack section that suited me down to the ground. And one short, sharp ramp, with a kerb before it, that I hit at speed and got up every lap, making time on those ahead who were hopping off and on.

Pity it's the last of 2016 for me really, though there's more to come in the early months of 2017.
