Alternative title; Schipol Airport, don't believe the hype.
It was a lazy goodbye this morning for those of us who stayed for the final night- the Crazy Czechs (official name) set off after dinner in the dark on their 11 hour car journey - we awarded them the foolhardy prize!
Some of the group went on a cultural tour by bike - but that would have been cutting it fine for my flight - so one of my Dutch colleagues dropped me at the train station - where I discovered there were works on the line and the last half of the journey would be by bus. Sat on the train I researched what to do with a 4 hour layover at Schipol. It's surprisingly slow into Amsterdam - I'd certainly have to rush my rijsttafel if I attempted it - but I found an article telling me about the airport's own Rijksmuseum and award winning Asian restaurant - right thought I, that's a plan with a good book.....
The lady at the information desk kindly gave me a map - I walked straight through the super high tech security....and found both were closed! A good wander round confirmed that Schipol is in fact very dull, and the usual mix of burger joints - so eventually I succumbed to coffee and cake and settled down to write a report on the last few days and get stuck into my latest Iain M Banks (rereading project)
