Walking to the Moon
(There are a few links in this text, which lead to pictures of today, on my Flickr.)
We seem to have fallen into a routine of going out for a walk nearly every day. As we walked today we talked about how lovely it is to do just that. You see and experience so much by being out more-or-less regardless of the weather virtually every day. Every season, every month, every day, is different and seeing the variations is so lovely.
Today was especially good. Minus 4°C, sunny and no wind. The snow was hard and a thin coating of frost crystals meant it was no longer slippery. The walk started in sunshine but the sun set after a while. The sky was a beautiful colour, according to my expert salmon pink, which also tinted the snow. High in the sky every small cloud was shedding moisture, which never reached the ground. Pink curtains illuminated by the sun. We paused on the way home to take a picture of the new ice on our local lake, and then saw a thin light on the horizon, the rising moon. We stood and watched as it grew into a circle and then lifted away from the horizon.
As we walked the final stretch the moon was setting over our village. I paused for a final picture and HarlingDarling walked on, into my picture.
