Gornergrat and the Matterhorn

It was a blistering hot day today! Extreme sun in a cloudless sky and hiking in the mountains equals red heat rash! Hopefully I've got enough of a tan to last me the next month or so!

We went up to Gornergrat by train and had views out to the Matterhorn. Hiked for 4 hours (downhill!) to Rifflealp. I didn't enjoy this hike much as it was a really dry and dusty landscape. Everything looked the same for miles. The lakes we went to were really more like pools. There were a lot of crickets and grasshoppers though, which were really fun to watch.

I can see why this is heaven for skiing though! I wish now I had a chance to come again in winter. Imagine everything covered in snow!

The Matterhorn showed itself today, but the sky was a boring blue so I didn't like any of the pics I took. Anyway loved being out and maybe one day I will be back!
