Dem bones, dem bones...
Went back into Boston today to walk the Freedom Trail, a route around the city that takes in many of the key historical sites.
It was an amazing day, even in 87 degree heat. One of my favourite places was a graveyard which contained the resting places of many famous characters involved in the American Revolution, such as Paul Revere and Samuel Adams.
The gravestones were fascinating for their engraving, many in this gothic style - skeletons, skull and crossbones, winged ghosts. Apparently it was almost a form of advertising for the stonemasons.
It was so hot we took refuge afterwards in the Beantown Pub across the road. It's famous for stocking a beer called Samuel Adams, the logic being that it's the only place in Boston where you can drink a cold Sam Adams while looking over at a cold Sam Adams!
