Pigeon Heaven
Closed in1998, this derelict Northampton hospital, originally a workhouse for paupers, (built 1836) is now home to hundreds of pigeons. Repeated efforts to re-develop the buildings or level them to a building site fail, partly because it remains a 'listed building' despite its ugliness and poor condition. The town council don't want to restore it, so a stalemate continues.
At least the pigeons are happy.
