Rare

Seriously I suffer for my art! I had to crawl through glaur & bog to get to this place. I t was worth it as this is one of the finest if not THE finest example of this type of stone carving in Western Scotland and some writers claim even in Europe. Many academics claim it has a link to Gaul, this type of carving began within a generation of Columbas death. It's nearest parallel is in a manuscript dating from 700 in a monastery in Luxeuil France which was run by that grumpy monk St Columbanus .
In the same ancient site is also a more modern stone for a person that has links with the Plantagenets but that's a story for another day!

I love being able to touch these sacred ancients
