Cabbage Tree . . . . .

. . . . . in flower.
These flowering bracts or bunches of the cabbage tree are usually so high up that it's impossible to get a good look at them. This one, unusually, is at head height and so I was able to frame it like this. It's at Moncks Bay, on the Christchurch Estuary, near the Sumner Bar.
It was supposed to rain this afternoon but a girlfriend and I decided to risk it, and walked the newly opened section of the Coastal Pathway.
