"The Gloucester"

Sorry the Dockray Hall, but it will always be to me "The Gloucester" after all it was known as the Gloucester Arms for 150 years.  Why the new owners decided to change the name back to what it was prior to 1719 I do not know.

We needed to meet somebody who we had never see before (a long story which I wont go into now) and "the Gloucester" seemed to be a good place.  It must be approaching 40 years since it was our regular Friday night haunt even before we were going out with each other.

The meeting resulted in an hours very pleasant chat with us seated in just the area we used to commandeer on a Friday night.  I was pleased to find that the ambience of the hadn't changed.  Well to be more correct the new owners have returned it to as near as possible what it was.

I should have said it was known as the Gloucester Arms because Richard Duke of Gloucester lived there while he made extensive alterations to Penrith castle (307 yards away as the supposed tunnel runs).  Later of course he became Richard 111 the last of the house of Plantagenet.
