THE ROSEWOOD/MAHOGANY QUESTION?

Those who earn their living from working precious woods for the manufacture of musical instruments are getting more & more anxious for their futures.

CITES (Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species) are contemplating banning trade in all rosewoods & mahoganies. They advocate using European hardwoods...

Maple? Problematic , but OK
Oak? Joke!
Ash? OK for electric guitar bodies - otherwise trash!
Walnut's great!
But with all these woods you have to wait...........
400 years before they're suitable for instrument making.

Thing is - suitable Mahogany can be grown in 30 years - Rosewood  takes a bit longer, but responsibly managed...
