At last
For the past month I've been preparing for today, the day I shift out of my home for the third time (first - what should have been the only earthqake repair of my home, second - to replace my carpet damaged by the first repair job, and third - to fix the first repair and include the things left out for the first first repair).
It's been messier and more difficult than it should be. EQC certainly knows how to dehunamise people. But good from the bad is where I'm staying for the next 5 weeks.
No, it's not within my community, no where near my home or work. Yes, it is wonderful, a bolt-hole in the country I'm in love with already. It's quiet, peaceful, rural, and cosy. I'm in a mini home beside the owners home, nearly 1km off the West Coast road (road between Christchurch and the West Cost). For all the difficulties getting my accommodation I've been truly blessed thanks to my friend Sue who live several hundred metres down the drive towards the road.
I've met a boy called Grey and dog called Blue :-)
I'm as tired as can be. For days on end I've been up before dawn and to bed late. The difference today is I'll be in bed before it's dark. I had much to do before the truck arrived to move my contents today. It went smoothly expect for the bit where they weren't going to secure the bolts in my washing machine/drier, which I'd been told they would do. A friend's brother-in-law came and sorted it out.
Some stuff is in my garage, the bulk is in a container somewhere in Christchurch, a little is in storage cupboards in my loft, and what I need is with me. A friend helped me vacuum and clean up. Then we worked with Peter my contractor to remove curtains, blinds, rails, and fittings.
I sat down to relax 13 hours after I got up today. The celebratory beer was good. I'm oh so pleased I have a 3 day weekend in front of me.
Day 2 positive: The people who helped me, some planned like Sharyn, my friend and Peter my contractor. And Tock who wasn't planned but who came at short notice to sort out my washing machine.
