Vega de Granada
This plain, The Vega of Granada, in the outskirts of the city of Granada on both sides of the river Genil used to be a wonderful orchard at the time the Arabs and other people before them lived in the city.
For centuries people have grown all kinds of garden products here: fruit, vegetables, cereals, tobacco.
However, little by little, as the city and its surrounding villages have been increasing their size, the vega has been getting smaller and now it is becoming really difficult to find a patch of green among the many industrial areas, storehouses, blocks, houses and estates scattered in the area.
This morning, in our daily walk near home, I saw this alfalfa field, with the old wells and the poplars in the background. The Vega used to be like this many years ago.
