Role model

The depressing events of yesterday draw attention to a flaw in the U.S Constitution.
When the founding fathers conceived the separation of powers they did not separate the functions of Chief Executive and Commander in Chief on the one hand from those of Head of State on the other.

So the new President is not only a politician but also, as Head of State should set an example to all citizens and to countries across the world of the standards of behaviour and public service which America values. In my view the Obamas deserve much respect in the way they have carried out these functions.

Unfortunately, whatever the value of the new President as a politician, it is hard to be enthusiastic about his virtues as a role model and example of selfless service to the nation.

My photo shows a younger portrait of someone he might try to emulate.
