Autumn leaves
Awoke to the news of a Trump victory. The failure of the left to truly challenge big business has left the way open for a populist right-wing agenda blaming foreigners for job losses actually caused by global capital and sweetened with promises to spend money on infrastructure projects. The point of politicians is to stand up to the wealthy and the powerful in the interests of the many. If politicians fail to do so then the powerful will point out that failure to help their own ends, not to make the politicians better. In an individualist world it is the already powerful and wealthy and their offspring who will always win - the rest of us need strong politicians and collective action to even things up. There's a reason that the so-called anti-establishment candidates that get support among the media are Farage and Trump and not Corbyn and Sanders.
