Oakmount Mill, Burnley

Today I had a very brief trip to Burnley, on arrival I found that the delegate had completed the course, I was to deliver, in May and didn't need to repeat it until 2019! A quick cup of tea then home. 250 miles, 6 hours round trip because somebody failed to check a date. Not best pleased. This mill was at the opposite end of the car park.

Begun in 1830, the mill continued to produce cotton until 1979, making it one of the last steam-powered mills in Burnley to close.
The steam engine, which dates from 1887, has been restored with financial help from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Science Museum PRISM Fund.
The engine is now operated by an electric motor and can be seen in action on a number of occasions each year.
