View from Chateau Arenenberg towards Paris

Well, Paris is some 500 km aways but the statement is true and no coincidence. After the fall of Napoleon I also Hortensee was banned from France (she was married to a brother of Napoleon I). First she found a place with a cousine in Constance and then bought the Arenenberg place in 1817. She did some reconstruction work in the Empire style and in fact, the salon is oriented towards Paris, as her goal was to re-establish the power by the Bonaparte family in France. Her son was Napoleon III and finally he achieved this goal.

Arenenberg castle was donated to the Swiss Canton of Thurgau in 1906, together with all the furniture. Still today it is an amazing place to visit, especially being the only visitors in the house, as we were on this rainy day.
