Cross Country Track Meet

It is fascinating to see the many ways in which this beautiful regional park is used.  On weekends it is full of dog walkers, baby walkers, runners, boaters and even campers. It has picnic grounds, an environmental education center, campgrounds and three new rustic shelters called Wedge cabins because of their shape. 

Originally designed as a flood control project, the work on three steel and concrete dams was completed in 1964, creating a lake designed to accommodate the water resulting from a 100 year flood. The source of the water is Santa Rosa Creek, the same creek that begins high on Hood Mountain and runs across the street from our house and into Spring Lake. Only once since it was built has the lake exceeded its capacity.

This morning we encountered a large intercity cross country track meet and we happened to be in the right place at the right time to catch this group of girls from five high schools in Sonoma County just after the starting gun. It would seem that their speed resides in the length of their hair as I didn't see a single girl with short hair.

We went from Spring Lake to the Pilates Studio where the lovely Sonya taught us Part 2 of a 3 part foam roller class. It was excruciating. Fortunately the studio is right next to Lepe's Tacqueria where we restored ourselves with fish tacos.

I was not at all happy after we got home to discover OilMan on the roof hoiking acorns out from under the roof tiles with a screwdriver. The man seems to believe he is invincible despite several recent indications to the contrary. As soon as I ordered, yelled at him, requested that he do something less insane, risky, the woodpeckers were all over the roof retrieving the acorns and putting them back....
