Nikki on Virginia's Bench

In October, 2015, fifty friends gathered around this bench in New Orleans City Park to celebrate the life of Virginia Peyton, Nikki's partner of many years, who died in hospital when the generators failed during Hurricane Katrina. Friends donated money for the bench and a plaque that reads, "In loving memory of Virginia Lea Peyton 8/14/37-8/31/05 Katrina Victim Missed by Nikki and Many Friends and Family." I wasn't able to attend the dedication, so Nikki took us to see it today.

The bench is beautifully placed in a shaded area near the bayou, with a view of the art museum and sculpture garden which Virginia loved. After we sat on the bench for a while, Nikki drove us into the Ninth Ward to see the rebuilding efforts mounted over the decade since Katrina.
