Rosehill Ramblings

Older than the trees

Attended a ceremony today to mark the 100th anniversary of the unveiling of the above statue in memory of the Immortal Bard, Robert Burns. Montrose plays a minor part in Burns' story as he stopped off here as part of his Highland Tour to visit relatives - the Burnesses of these parts.

I took this blip from as close as I could to the same angle as the photo on the cover of the order of service for the event - it was a picture taken on the day of its unveling exactly 100 years ago. Only a couple of things seem to have changed - we now have large railings protecting Rabbie from the vandals and the tree in the background had just been planted.

It was an enjoyable afternoon complete with Montrose Town Band and an excellent recitation of "To a Mouse". I closed my eyes to enjoy the poem and could almost feel myself being transported back 100 years to the original ceremony!
