For shots like this I wish I remembered the basics, like using AF/AE lock or even just the multiple focusing pint option. I have to say that my phone camera has got me into the habit of using a touchscreen for focus point selection and I miss it on my cameras. And yes I have been known to stab at the screen on a camera wondering why it wouldn't focus
