Original Old Pumping Station Chimney.

Now part of the Museum Of Technology which exists to preserve and  exhibit material that is relevant to the Cambridge area. The steam pumps, which removed waste, were originally powered by burning the city's rubbish, before 'Green' was thought about. This chimney shaft is 175ft high,  with a square base and octagonal above and lined with fire bricks one third of the way up  and is 6ft 6 ins diameter at the top  ( 53.34 and 1.98 metres.)  In 1992, Fred Dibnah  undertook the painting and pointing repairs, which was featured on BBC TV. I have visited and seen inside several times as it has special displays and 'steam up' days.
