The Wendover Wides
This morning I got up loaded the car & went to the tip with tree clippings. Whilst there I diverted to the canal bridge in College Road North. I was stood on the hump back bridge when I was aware that there was traffic coming towards me from both directions. I stopped the artic & waved on the stream of traffic then waved on the artic who was a bit scared of grounding his trailer on the hump but he was Ok. I went for a very short walk along the towpath but because I said I would be home soon I didn't dawdle. Home then via the co-op & the chemist to get some co-codomol for C who' back is still giving her some grief.
Because the day was so gorgeous I decided to go out for another walk this time along the Grand Union Canal Wendover Arm where I walked from Perch Bridge along The Wides to Oliver's Bridge. At this point during WWI there was a Tramway which ran from Wendover Station to Halton Camp long since gone but you can clearly see its route and it is still used as a footpath. I crossed over the bridge for a quick look but decided to turn back and head for the car as my feet were starting to give me some pain.
Lots to see on the walk including lots of people walking & cycling & dog walking - in fact I almost got licked to death by 2 retrievers who's lady owner was so apologetic.
I met one chap who said it was a crying shame to see the canal gone to rack & ruin. I said that the Arm had never been much of a success since its construction in the 1800s. He said he could remember Barges on it in his youth but despite nodding I knew he was mistaken as the Canal had gone out of use by 1904 !
Michael has smashed up the base of the patio & most of it has now gone.
A fine sunny Autumnal Day.
